The investors Q&A for Sony released some new information that may suggest the PS5 is launching after March 2020 and will be sold at a loss.
The SIE President John Kodera released a slide where they expect anywhere between a 11% to 32% drop in profit by March 2021.
The reason that is so strange to see is that PSN subscriptions is the main profit driver for SIE and those numbers will carry seamlessly to the PS5. What would account for such a drop that stark at that precise time is if a PS5 launching after March 2020 was sold at a loss. The range of 11% or 32% depending on how many PS5 units they shift during that time period. Obviously, the more they sell the more losses they make and the closer to that 32% high estimate they get.
Given this, we can probably expect a higher performance profile for the PS5 if we can expect it to be sold as a loss. So the possibilities for what hardware it can have has grown when it comes to speculating.
